In October 1998, a research program and support for the development of working documentation for the restoration of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was approved. The program consisted of the following sections:

  1. Life and poster studies – performers of JSC “Kievproject”, Institute “Ukrproektretavratsiya”, KSTUS, NIISK. Field tests of foundations reinforced with piles (with initial data, ultimate soil resistance under the tip and on the lateral surface of piles), bench tests of fragments of parts of the preserved and new masonry walls for static loads (based on the experimental values of the masonry deformation modules and its bearing capacity) were envisaged, “the drawing closer of a painting (performers Institute” Ukrproektretetavratsiya “and SSTC” Konrest “).
  2. Numerical modeling of the stress-strain state (VAT) of fragments of the foundation and structures of the cathedral – performers of JSC “Kievproject”. Institute “Ukrproektrestavratsiya”. KGTUSA, NIISK and the geological institute KU. We investigated the numerical simulation of the interaction of piles, piles and foundation remnants with the base (initial data for the design – bearing capacity of piles and foundations reinforced by piles and deformation of the base in various areas of the cathedral). Calculations were provided for pylons and various reinforcement schemes (metal ferrule, concrete jacket) (the initial data are the rationale for a rational technical solution for reinforcement). It was planned to carry out calculations of foundation-strengthened by piles and their influence on the base deformations from the collapses of cavities, existing canals and tunnels (based on the development of design solutions for foundations and structures of the upper part of the cathedral), calculations of the possibilities for changing the hydrodynamic conditions of the site when restoring the cathedral based on the determination of the slope stability coefficient).
  3. Study of the interaction of the bases and supporting structures of the cathedral with the main and special combinations of loads. It was planned to perform spatial calculations of the cathedral on dopmactions and strength according to the complex scheme “base” – “foundation” – “reinforcement elements” – “top structure” (based on rational constructive solutions and technologies for the restoration of the cathedral). This section provided for an assessment of the interaction of the system elements, an assessment of the mutual influence of the elements of strengthening foundations and the determination of their joint bots, the study of effective design solutions of the existing connection of the cathedral with the new VAT calculation base and the construction of the cathedral at different stages of loading and incorporation into existing and new structures, development of design estimates and measures of protection for the basic and special combinations of loads.
  4. Lifetime and instrumental stereogenic deformations of the cathedral and the surrounding buildings during its restoration by the performers of the institute “Ukroektrestavratsiya”, NIISK, KGTUS, Geological Institute KU. It was supposed to monitor the spatial work of the cathedral during restoration (based on information for quick response and scientific research) to observe the interaction of the cathedral building with the base, geodetic observation of the movements of a part of the cathedral, observation of wall deformations, their intersections and places of communication old and new buildings of observation of deformations of spatial structures of baths, floor covering (dome, dome, dome based on instrumental observations).
  5. Acoustic studies and field measurements – performers of JSC “Kievproject”, NIISK. Provided an experimental assessment of the acoustic characteristics of the speakers – the cathedral resonators and the development of their design solutions (design solutions speakers and recommendations for their placement), the study of sound-absorbing properties of cladding materials on the inner surfaces of the cathedral (recommendations for use).
  6. Scientific support of constructive development at the stage of working documentation – performers of the institute “Ukrproektrestavratsiya”, JSC “Kievproject”, NIISK, KGTUS, DTTTS “Konrest”, IA NAS of Ukraine. It included an assessment of the carrying capacity of the structures of the Assumption Cathedral based on the results of research and calculations (assessment of the bearing capacity of the cathedral’s structures for its restoration), selection of reinforcement and developing recommendations for the design of the supporting structures of the cathedral (foundations-walls based on the design rationale for structural solutions of the cathedral, studies of building materials on the basis of the compiled atlas and the collection Building materials of the Assumption Cathedral, the structure of stabilization hsya pylons and tin and combinations thereof overlap with new parts, baths, metal cupola, and beam coating, archaeological observation.
  7. Technology Development – performers Institute “Ukrproektrestavratsiya”, “UkrTehStroy”, SSTC “Konrest”.
